New York City is a hub for all things new and innovative: it is the place where new ideas are born, tested, and experienced. In October, these worlds collide at an international summit that showcases the newest technology in real estate. Filippo Rean states that “recognizing that real estate has reached the tipping point in the rapidly growing importance of PropTech, Reed Midem sees New York City as the epicenter of this movement and the clear choice to host our North America MIPIM PropTech Summit” (2).
In addition to New York City being the optimal market to host the summit, the topic of technology is fitting and timely for the market as of date. With new software programs that have the capability to analyze individual neighborhoods, market trends, and real estate regions it is no surprise that this is the key topic of the summit. In addition, “It will also be the first of the MIPIM series to focus exclusively on the future of the real estate market, with a heavy emphasis on the impact of technology” (1). The more the consumer relies on technology to browse listings and become aware of the real estate transactions, the seller and the broker have to follow suit: in both residential and commercial real estate. In order to make the product, in this case real estate, to becomes more attractive to the consumer, developers and real estate moguls need to be ahead of the curve.
REW Magazine states that “bringing this prestigious global event to New York City speaks to the quality of RETech innovation, the strength of our community and the continued leadership role New York City will play as this sector grows and comes closer together globally” (1). All over the world, New York City is considered to be a leader and a pioneer for “the new new” in the real estate and tech industry. Having the communities from both industries comes together in this global seminar further strengthens the influential position that the New York marketplaces has over not only the Unites States, but also the world. It further seals the market as being a sphere for raising the bar and setting the standard worldwide for technology as well as real estate development.
